polls make me say “bleugh”

or bleck!

I can’t stand polls.  Anytime I see that word I get uncomfortable.  How can polls ever be close to being correct?  I can’t watch news anymore without some sort of poll being shown.  Maybe if they prefaced it with, we polled 200 people from Mecklenburg county from the University City area, in this neighborhood, then polls would be closer to being a true representation to what they are.  But what you usually get is we polled 664 people from across North Carolina which then equates to 3 out of 4 North Carolinians think “blah-de-blah.” (Yes, “blah-de-blah” also means “fill in the blank”).  Do you know the % of North Carolinians this represents?  Hardly, 3/4 I’m sure.  With the presidential election in 2008 upcoming and news organizations think it is the utmost importance to cover candidates this early (well seriously, they’ve been wanting to cover them since 2004) - we are in for more and more polls.  Maybe some math genius can enlighten me on polls and the math behind it.
