post-Check IT Out
I’m making this post a little later than I wanted, but we’ve been on the constant move since last Friday. We are both exhausted and feel over extended, but our trip was a good one.
The two days of conference was good to hammer in some Wycliffe concepts of how important translation work is. They really didn’t need to do that, as we are totally on board with that. We got some better and more details about software used in the field. I also got to see some of their job descriptions and see how that matches up with my skills and talents. I guess I was a little bit disappointed that it wasn’t too techie enough for me. No code. No finite details, just broad sweeping details that was a little bit too broad.
One thing we really jived-on was the skype conversations to missionaries in the field. One in the Philippines and another down in South America. I think it would have been better if they opened it up to break-out sessions so that people can get more info in the fields they are most interested in.
I see myself possibly taking a multi-skilled technician position as that is the most important need. It is also one that would take me out on the field and not be at a USA location such as Dallas or even Waxhaw. But really, I need not to look at what I want, but to be flexible/bendy enough to jump on to what God is doing.
The rest of our trip was just awesome. We drove several hours east to Montclair and spent the morning attending both services at Montclair Community Church. We saw some dear close friends, and honestly, after telling alot of those folks what we are thinking of doing, we have blown their minds. After this we had an superfantastigreat meal at the home of pastor Ed Banghart and his wife Janet. Ed was very thoughtful to put on the Giants-Packer game for me (note Ed is a Cowboy fan which is in itself mindblowing since he was born and raised in Newark). The afternoon just went by in a flash and before we knew it we were on the road back home.
Now we are home, and Jessica has another day at the house. We are thankful for my parents who kept William for us. We are thankful for the many ways God provided for us on this trip and took such good care of us. We are thankful for those who have kept us in prayer as we were sustained in them.
