RIP Phil “Scooter” Rizzuto

If anyone has spent significant time around me and our son William will note that I occasionally will refer to him as “Scooter.” A term of affection and endearment and, honestly, an homage to Yankees legend Phil Rizzuto.

Today I received word of his death at the age of 89. He won 7 World Series rings with the Yanks, and competed in 9 of them.

One of my favorite Scooter quotes:

“I like radio better than television because if you make a mistake on radio, they don’t know. You can make up anything on the radio.”

Many fond memories of watching Yankee games with my dad and having Scooter announce the games. When he retired from broadcasting it was a sad time, and even today they still make mention of him. I wonder how people will remember him? In the broadcast booth or as a player? Class act regardless.
