“don’t use it, don’t beat people over the head with it”

Democrats talk about God in this Time magazine article. I’ve decided to share their quotes with you here on this blog.

Hillary Clinton:

“I talked about my faith years ago and was pilloried for it.”

“Maybe we’re getting back to where people can be who they are,” she says. “If faith is an element of who you legitimately, authentically are, great. But don’t make it up, don’t use it, don’t beat people over the head with it.”

“You know, sometimes I say, Oh, Lord, why can’t you help me lose weight?” she said to sympathetic laughter. “Sometimes, you know, it’s praying for discernment, for wisdom, for strength, for courage.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi:

“Science is a gift of God to all of us,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a debate on increased embryo-research funding, “and science has taken us to a place that is biblical in its power to cure.”

John Edwards:

“The hand of God today,” he said, “is in every step of what happens with me and every human being that exists on this planet.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (not sure about party affiliation):

“It’s a positive thing that Democrats are willing to talk about faith and values, but they are aligned with organizations that sue to stop kids from praying and block the Ten Commandments.”

The whole article is filled with strategy to win an election, and not necessarily the democrats sharing their faith and values. Still interesting nevertheless, and makes one wonder if you can truly win an election these days without making an idol of self. It was also interesting that Barack Obama, while mentioned quite often in the article and his face shown in the banner, has no quotes to share with us.
