conversational?
I took issue with a recent comment found on a blog that most of you most likely read. It considered blogs as a “great conversation” between itself and it’s readers. This particular blog does not allow comments, but will allow you to respond to each post.
Now my issue was confusing to me in a way that I couldn’t understand how the word “conversation” could be used here. So I do what I usually do when I can’t figure out how a word is used. I looked it up at dictionary.com, where it says:
informal interchange of thoughts, information, etc., by spoken words; oral communication between persons; talk; colloquy.
Ah! An informal interchange was what I was looking for. By not allowing comments it is hardly an effective interchange. By allowing the reader to leave a response could make it a conversation, but not really a collaborative one, when in mind if you leave a comment it would not be responded to, but read nevertheless.
But I did get a response, and it was something that I’ve never really thought of, but really should have. Think of the conversation as between the whole blogosphere. Not between commenters and readers, but between two or more blogs. You read a post on someones blog and comment about it on your blog. Talk about a giant light bulb that just went off.
So here is what I want to do or try to do. I want to start a conversation on our blog with someone from another blog. I want to post a topic here. I want someone to respond to my topic on their blog with questions or feedback on what I posted. Where I will respond back here on what they posted on their blog. Get it? I want to try to create a “conversation” between blogs.
Anyone game?
