The ugliness of newsvine

And I suppose it is the ugliness of any site that allows the users the ability to converse about various news topics. I have recently stumbled upon newsvine and I really like the “eye-candy” look of the site. It is easy to read, has lots of links to various related stories, and it allows me to stay the course with topical searches and get a quick read on what is happening in the world.

That being said - I can not recommend reading the comments left by other readers (users) of the site. Particularly those of religion and politics. Honestly - I am shattered when I read some comments from those whose hearts are so frozen to a point where you couldn’t take a chisel and chip off any of the ultra-chromium-titanium (very hard to some of us) shell that has developed over the years due to abusive situations and living to self (i.e. idolatry).

I try to stay just enough knowledgeable about politics to understand how the politico’s mind works and if any of them have a viewpoint that matches my own Christian one (and yes, I am still looking).

I’ve thought about how we can put on a superficial coat of prettiness on the exterior, but when it gets down to it and you start thinking and speaking from the heart — it gets ugly real fast. I will continue to pray that my heart remains soft and mailable, and that I will continue to be shaped by the Word of God rather than those expressed on newsvine.
