Express line slowdowns…my fault?
I’ve got this very bad cold right now. And when I’m sick and can’t breathe I usually can’t sleep. So last night I turned on the TV and saw the local 11 o’clock news. One story (I think the only one) that piqued my interest was one about express line slowdowns. To quote:
It’s one of my little pet peeves,” says shopper John Walls. He adds, “You’ve got one or two items in your hand and you get in line and there’s someone in front of who has a buggy full of groceries.”
Now I can’t agree more. When I’m making a quick run into the grocery store for milk or that one rare item I need for dinner that night I want a quick entry and a quick exit. I like to call it “seek-and-destroy” shopping.
How do I handle this? By shopping at grocery stores with self-checkout lines that allow me to scan and bag my own items. Easy enough.
I’ve been to our favorite grocery store many times where I have a cart full of groceries and pull in behind someone who has a cart full of groceries being checked out. Sometimes I get a nice and considerate cashier that is running the express line to volunteer for me to come over to her register for a checkout. It is only after a few items are processed then you get one of the “I’m in a hurry” types come up behind you with one or two items in their hand. Does this count? Am I being torn apart in that person’s head because I was being checked out in the express lane with about around 50 or so grocery items?
