home
We are all home now and easing into the routine of caring for a new infant. I know Jess is glad to be home and not being woken up constantly from nurses with good intentions. Now she will be awaken from the cries of a hungry baby. I guess I’ll be too. But those times will be much better than those from a nurse. Yes, I gave up from trying to sleep there at the hospital and came home.

time to cook
We love to cook, but we seldom make time for it. Plus we never really take the time to adequately prepare in advance, so when opportunities come along to have close friends over for lunch or dinner we opt out and go for take out, delivery or go out for the meal.
I’ve been a great fan of Heidi Swanson for quite some time. Her site called 101 cookbooks is a wonderful site for recipes and ...

[Editors Note: We changed our look and no longer have the flickr badge on the blog page. But, dear reader, take heart, you can access our flickr page here.
To the right you’ll notice something called a flickr badge that will show images from the “public domain” of our site at flickr.com. You can click one of these photos and it will take you to the flickr site where you can...

I could not find a good clear image of Rachel. I believe that I was too excited at most opportune photo moments. Instead I present you with this gem from the vault (keep in mind this was from a couple of weeks ago).

as sorrowful yet always rejoicing
our hearts are mourning at the following report.
We are deeply grieved to report the apparent deaths of Muhammad Hadi and Cyd Mizell, Asian Rural Life Development Foundation workers who were kidnapped by gunmen Jan. 26 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Although we have no confirmation of their deaths, we have received information over the past few days indicating that our two aid workers have been...

Our beautiful girl was born this morning at 9:17am.

Sunday night update
Nothing…
I can’t say there has not been progress, but I can’t say we’ve thought about going to the doctor.
We did make it to church today, and then to lunch with some friends…but other than a few good contractions here and there that has been about it for Jess. She has been doing lots of walking to no avail.
We are so grateful for all our friends and family that...

It's Friday night...
I spent some of the time telling my good friends at Global Cafe how the doctor visit went today with Jessica (you remember her…the girl who used to post on this family blog…) and how that the doctor said if the baby doesn’t come by Wednesday at the appointment then they will most likely induce labor either Thursday or Friday.
Well I get back home this evening and hear that she...

like cars?
If you like automobiles and the history of them, then go up to Asheville and check out the Estes-Winn museum near the Grovepark Inn and galleries. My uncle, Jerry, is the curator there. Here is a neat little show of him and the museum. Some say I favor him quite a bit…what do you think? I think quite alot of him and his wife Pat.

school update
I am starting my last project for school and I am on schedule. The project will take approx. 12 weeks to complete, but I suspect it will be finished much sooner than that. Please encourage me during this time by holding me accountable to the tasks that lay before me. We are so thankful for you, our family and friends, who regularly lift us up in prayer and shower us with love.

shocked
I’ve been quiet these few weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. While I thought the Giants had a chance to give the Pats a great game, I did not believe they could win. I am shocked by the outcome. Eli’s play was remarkable. I am also encouraged by the defense. Hats off to my team for a hard fought win. Hoooray!
