make me break
Last Sunday we had a good topic of discussion on brokenness in core seminar at church. It made me think of this Reilly song (go figure):
Jesus i want to love you more than i do
To say that i chase only after you
Is simply untrue
So Lord please
Make me break
Every time i fall
Every time i let you down
And Lord please
Cause me to stumble
Upon your hand of grace
Every time i reach for...

My sports world is crumbling…
Proctor to the Dodgers for… ah, who cares?
Strahan considers retirement
Tiki retired
Coughlin is still coach
Torre still manages
A bright spot is some of the Yankees best prospects are rebounding from injuries. Now if we can just give away Farns and Kei. Just removing them from the team will not tempt our manager from playing them.
enlivened hearts...dead plants
We are back home from our “taste tour” and find that our boy has grown in so many ways. Thanks for your prayers covering him.
We’ve also found several dead plants in and around the house…to be expected I guess. One is our “mystery veggie” that has been growing outside. What’s a mystery veggie? It’s a few plants that one of our friends gave us and...
Jaars: Friday morning
Our last day at the JAARS center and we are anticipating our return trip back home to see our son William. It is also a great day to reflect upon the things we’ve learned this week, the good friends we have made, and to pray hard about how God will use us to further His kingdom among the world’s peoples.
Yesterday was a day where we were both excited about Language Survey. If there...
Jaars: Thursday morning
We are starting to feel the intensive week here at the JAARS center. They keep us pretty busy during the days, at 8am we have devotions and singing. Then off to a quick breakfast, then on to the first class of the day at 9am. We have had a pretty consistent diet of phoenetics, phonology, grammer and translation. I would like to ask for prayer during this time as we are feeling very low on...
Jaars: Photos
As Jess said in her post, what an incredible day. I am greatly humbled to see how God is bringing glory to His Name here at JAARS. Here are some photos from our time here thus far:
Jaars : Tuesday night
What an amazing day!! Again, completely wiped from the day but eager to share the highlights:
An appreciation for the complexity of human languages and duality of patterning: “No matter how eloquent his bark, a dog cannot tell you that his father was poor, but honest.”
An appreciation for the finer points of grammar, noting that only one word changes between the following two...
Jaars : Monday night
It has been a super long day, but an awesome one. I am extremely full from our themed dinner, a Persian feast, and ready to crash out pretty soon, but excited to share this quick handful of treasured moments from the day:
Conclusive evidence followed by Michael’s acquiescence that the schwa is in fact a real linguistic concept, actually represented by an upside down e and not a random...

Jaars : Monday afternoon
We just finished an intensive day at the Jaars center. This morning we met and had morning devotions and sang some songs to get us focused on the day. We sang, God of Wonders, Ancient of Days, and How Great is our God.
Dennis Cochrane led us in devotions and our first class on vision 2025. We took classes in phonetics, translation and took a tour of the JAARS center. It was an intense day...
Jaars : Sunday night
We’ve just finished up our orientation and have settled back into our room with our *BINDERS*! It’s like the first day of school…after the Vespers service where we got an update on the Jesus film newly recorded for a people group in Panama, we had group introductions, a pizza dinner, and an overview of the week along with some very fun stories from our head teacher’s years...
Jaars : Sunday afternoon
We have arrived. We have checked into our apartment, and I’m pleased to see that there is inet access. So I can post current updates about our stay here. Because of my type A personality with regards to keeping time (thanks Josiah), we were one of the first ones here. We got our keys and now we are in the apartment waiting around till 4pm for Vespers. Unfortunately there is no NT to...
Another Lizzie Bennet!
Nicole, I’m not surprised… ;)
Now if only I could get my hair to go more like hers…
You scored as Elizabeth Bennet, As one of Austen’s most beloved characters, Elizabeth Bennet represents what most women would like to become: strong, independent, and loyal. Of course, she has her faults including a stubborn will of iron and a clinging to first impressions. Overall,...
My husband rocks
I have the best husband, maybe ever. We just came from a dine out experience with some pretty below average service. And yet, my extremely awesome husband was so good as to wait for our exceptionally slow waitress to bring me an order of cheesecake to take home while I took the crabby boy to wait in the car. AND he made the excellent executive decision to get the fried cheesecake instead of...
"don't use it, don't beat people over the head...
Democrats talk about God in this Time magazine article. I’ve decided to share their quotes with you here on this blog.
Hillary Clinton:
“I talked about my faith years ago and was pilloried for it.”
“Maybe we’re getting back to where people can be who they are,” she says. “If faith is an element of who you legitimately, authentically are, great. But...

you'll never get back those 8 hours
Obviously this guy thinks all technology will work and never fail.
At that point I felt a little nauseous, too — four days and the iPhone I spent eight hours in line to buy was a goner.
Was he sad his iPhone stopped working? Or is he lamenting on losing 8 hours of his precious life waiting in line?

If you are familiar with BBC’s Doctor Who then you won’t be able to put this down.
the highs and lows of audio recording
I wanted to share this with you folks who have been listening to the podcasts of Desiring God Community Church…and if you haven’t, what’s keeping you??? (Note: Click the link on the right sidebar called DGCC Audio).
Up until the end of May ‘07 the audio recording as been hit-or-miss. Sometimes there would be no recording, and if there was a recording it would sound rather...
