Turkey: Letter to the global church
The link to this letter is here. Some of it is of a disturbing nature, but I feel it is very important to read it in its original form. That being said, I’ve removed all of the difficult parts. Here are our murdered brothers:
SMYRNA, TURKEY (ANS) — Smyrna is an ancient city (today known as Izmir in Turkey) that was founded at a very early period at a central and strategic point...
Turkey: Widow forgives
Christians in Turkey have dedicated the first Sunday after the horrific killing of three Christian workers to Bible reading, prayer and worship in the Protestant Church in Istanbul.
Turkish police officers stand guard as the coffin of Tilmann Geske is carried out from a hospital in Malatya, central Turkey, Friday, April 20, 2007. Singing hymns in Turkish, mourners on Friday…

Turkey: "Satanically Tortured"
WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT, READERS’ DISCRETION ADVISED
By BosNewsLife News Center
ISTANBUL, TURKEY (BosNewsLife) — There was increased concern Thursday, April 26, about the plight of active Christians in Turkey after investigators revealed that three evangelical believers were “satanically tortured” last week before being killed.
The influential American human rights...
surrender not
The sacrifice of truth in favor of propaganda for fear of violence is the first step on the road to enslavement… Evil exists and must be defeated, or evil will triumph.
Cal Thomas, “Surrender syndrome” in World Magazine 4/14/2007
haven't said this in a while...
last place
Losing three games in Fenway Park after leading in all of them is one thing. Getting beaten by the Devil Rays at Tropicana Field is embarrassing.
I heart JRB
Have I gone on enough about this band? (no) If you decided to discuss music with me you will, no doubt, will hear me mention this band. I’m excited about their next album in which they are currently recording in the studio. If you like Dave Matthews (which is what I think they sound like) and some great lyrics then you’ll love this band.
we're game
One of our favorite things to do is play board games. Card games are ok, but board games is where the action is at. It takes someone who loves games just as much as we do when it comes to games such as monopoly and (dare I say it?) Risk.
There are some people who are genuinely upset when they lose at a game. I’m one of those, so it makes sense that I can tell when people are sad or mad...
watching with your ears
Does the project work according to just this comment?
“The project seems to work. I’ve seen it firsthand.”
It is also interesting to me to see how the Charlotte Observer (via the AP) has the news title: “Cruise raises funds for 9/11” where in reality he is raising funds to support the scientology detox program which is just vitamins and a trip to the sauna.
proselytizing? no, persecution
India (MNN) — A week ago, police in Hyderabad detained and questioned a group of 26 U.S. tourists for “proselytizing.”Residents of a slum in the area allegedly complained that the foreigners were trying to convert the locals. The group of 26 was with a schoolteacher who worked with street children in the U.S. and contacted her friend working with an NGO (Non Governmental...
Improvisational English: Nounifying, Verbitating,...
Warning: The following post may cause discomfort, confusion, generalized sadness, or heartburn to the grammatically oppressed. Reader discretion is advised.
To elaborate on the practice that I’m delighted to find William adopting as described in previous post:
Using prefixes and suffixes in a way that is conceptually accurate (location, general meaning, etc.) but with root words they have...
That's My Boy...
True to some of my favorite pastimes (wordifying and contractionizing things), Will said to me tonight:
Mom, I need my snuffleotamus.
Of course, I immediately knew he was referring to his stuffed rhinoceros. Somewhere in his mind is a continuum that looks about like this:
The Black Family: Turning English into a foreign language one word at a time…

It’s not what you think.
detained for praising Jesus
HYDERABAD, INDIA — Global council of Indian Christians(GCIC) takes serious exceptions in the illegal detention of tourists by the Hyderabad police on the dictates of radical Hindus. The radicals have ganged up against the tourists as they came to know that the tourists are devout Christians. This is time for the international community to address increased attacks against Christians, symbols...
conversational?
I took issue with a recent comment found on a blog that most of you most likely read. It considered blogs as a “great conversation” between itself and it’s readers. This particular blog does not allow comments, but will allow you to respond to each post.
Now my issue was confusing to me in a way that I couldn’t understand how the word “conversation” could be...
standing steadfast
Can you imagine having a government official coming to your home and attempt to force you to deny Christ?
The Iranian government attempts to force Christians to deny Christ through threats, interrogations and beatings. Believers are standing steadfast and continue spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you ask me...
The Man in the Yellow Hat just gives Curious George way more responsibility than is appropriate for a monkey. Just consider some of these tasks that I’ve recently seen delegated to George:
-Go to the store for a dozen donuts/fruit/insert other food item here
-Babysit the pet bunnies/tadpoles/insert other pet here
-Hold a stethoscope (how bad can this be?)
-Run a lemonade stand
-Work at...
Lexington
William, his grandparents, his great-grandfather and myself spent the day in Lexington, NC. We were there visiting aunts and uncles and having a great time. We first went to aunt Ruth’s house. She had a small little black dog named “Millie” who gave William a few good licks on the face to show him who the boss was. Will spent the time playing with cars and trucks that we...
