Till we meet again
“At all events,” he said with a cheerful grin, “we’ll certainly meet again, here - or there.”  Then it was time to go, and we drained our mugs.  When we emerged on to the busy High with the traffic steaming past, we shook hands, and he said: “I shan’t say goodbye.  We’ll meet again.”  Then he plunged into the traffic.  I stood there watching...

sports update fix
Last night at global cafe I was asked which NBA star I liked the best. Now that was an interesting question because I haven’t followed the NBA for years. I do pick up on stories on how there are brawls on the court that somehow end up in the stands. I thought for a moment about the Nets in New Jersey, the last time I followed an NBA team and thew out the name: Jason Kidd. I then read...

Xuying, are you there?
Update: Today I received an email from Xuying! It was great to hear from him, and he was just telling about how this upcoming lunar new year is the year of the pig. I’m not 100% sure he has access to the blog, but God is good, even when I misplace emails. I recently met a good friend by the name of Xuying Li who left to go back to China a few weeks ago. I’ve misplaced his email...

Valentine's Bookends
Two memories I am savoring sweetly tonight, one old and one new. The old: Nine years ago today, my boyfriend took me to the mall for a little shopping excursion—a big deal given that I was a recreational shopper and he was a tactical shopper.  We were walking around the second floor at Carolina Place mall and I was talking, marathon style, who knows about what, when I suddenly noticed he...

NY Street Etiquette
I should have had this a few times.  My favorites: Be mindful that others on the street are trying to get someplace—fast; and also be aware that they should assume that you’re trying to get someplace—fast. This is why people on the streets of New York walk so quickly. It’s the ‘quickly’ part that aids the ‘fast’ part. So step quickly, sirs and madams. And, please, please, no serpentining down...

On Valentines day...
I suppose I should have an obligatory valentines day post.  Funny how there is always something going on year after year on valentines day where it appears to be just like any other day.  How does that happen?  Last night we *tried* to find a place to eat after Perspectives class, but even in the “world-class” city of Charlotte, restaurants just don’t stay open past 10pm on a...

Brilliant labeling...
My allergy medication has two instructional stickers on it: Take one tablet at bedtime Do not drive if drowsy I don’t even know where to begin.  My most immediate question is who is driving at bedtime?  Or is it possible that in the world of pharmaceuticals, the parental rule of bedtime equaling a clock time supercedes the more obvious definition, “when one goes to bed”?

Yuki-taro! What Buffalo, NY needs
We heard that Buffalo, NY has been dumped on … literally 8 FEET of snow has fallen with more on the way. What better way to take care of the problem than to fire up a couple of Yuki-taros! These robots seek out snow and keep on track using a GPS system. It compresses the snow into snow blocks in which it expels from its rear that will allow for them to be stacked (where??) for use over the...

Strange answers to prayer
Some of you know I am a bad flyer.  And for those of you who don’t, I would submit my definition of a bad flyer as a white-knuckled armrest-gripping, blank-minded, irrational, unconversational, and unresponsive lump of goo belted into a seat cushion which (conveniently enough) serves as a flotation device.  Today, I had the opportunity to practice bad flying at its best (or is that...

live in peace
To live in peace with each other in the church requires three things: Respect Those in Leadership. v.12-13 We get along with those in fellowship. v.14-15 We honor God in worship. v.16-18 Pastor Ed Banghart from the sermon, “Live in peace with each other” taken from 1 Thessalonians 5:12-18.

Beijing House Church Leader Released!
A reason to give praise the the Name of the Lord! The China Aid Association has learned that well-known church leader Liu Fenggang has been released from prison after serving three years. He is now back home after being released on Feb 5th. Mr. Liu was arrested back in Oct 2003 and sentenced in Aug 2004 (almost a year between!) on the grounds that he provided national intelligence on the...

"just some crazy apple geeks"
Tim responded to his post yesterday in the a la carte section of his site: In a moment of transparency, I’ll admit that I secret lust after a Mac. Problem is I can’t afford one since I’d need one of those big ol’ designing rigs. And then I’d need to buy new software and so on. It would get really expensive really fast. And I don’t think I’d ever (EVER)...

oh come on now...
It is ever so often I find myself disagreeing with Tim Challies. Today’s a la Carte is too much: Technology: This guy nicely sums up my feelings about Macs. “Macs are glorified Fisher-Price activity centres for adults; computers for scaredy cats too nervous to learn how proper computers work; computers for people who earnestly believe in feng shui.” Yet year after year...

I'm a Knitwit
Hooray!  I learned how to start a new ball of yarn in a knitting project when the one you started with runs out.  Now Mike can have a whole scarf instead of half of one.
