I'm sorry...
The very nice people from KitchenAid are replacing my mixer. For free. It didn’t matter that I never sent in the warranty card. It took all of five minutes on the phone. And the new one will be here in time to do Christmas baking! They even offered me a choice of colors. I love them.
And so, with apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning:
How do I love KitchenAid? Let me count the ways.
I...

The Stollen Ate My Mixer!
It is a sad night in the Black household.
By way of background, you should know how much I love my KitchenAid mixer, which I acquired two years ago after much pining. KitchenAid claims it’s “more than a mixer,” and I would have been hard pressed to disagree. I used my mom’s KitchenAid when I was a kid, feeling very grown up and Betty Crocker-ish when I used it to yummy...
nose to the grindstone
This might be my last post for a while as I have quite the upcoming courseload.
Pray for my time well spent both in my studies and with both Jessica and William.
And if you see me, please ask how I am doing. I would greatly appreciate some encouragement at this time.
WHY do I do this to myself??
21-0 to start the 4th quarter.
The final was 21-24 - Titans.
I need to find a hole to crawl into for the rest of the night.
Pa - the - tic - !! (for those interested I am arousing sympathetic sadness for my team)
Thankfulness around the table
A tradition that was started in our family was to go around the table and for each person to say or express what they are thankful for this past year. We had a total of nine family and friends able to participate this year, and everyone at our Thanksgiving table listed family as one of the most important things they were grateful for. I wholeheartedly agree and here are a couple of reasons why:

new bookshelf
Yesterday afternoon we received a phone call from World Market that our bookshelf came in. So last night we went over to our local store and purchased it.
It was a funny sight to see how we got a rather large bookshelf into our smallish Honda CR-V, and still manage to be safe about it with three passengers (one being William who still sits in a child safety seat). Perhaps Jessica would not find...
merely to negotiate
From ESPN.com:
By bidding $51.1 million merely to negotiate with Matsuzaka — signing him to a contract might necessitate that much again — the Sox also abandoned the moral high ground. That sort of “woe-is-us” defense tends to look a bit transparent when a team suddenly finds almost 6 billion yen stuffed under the mattress.
No more suggestions, please, that the Yankees...
the glory of God that shines
In Psalm 104:2 the psalmist says that God covers himself with light as with a garment, and in verse 1 states that he is clothed with splendor and majesty. Then in Psalm 104:31 it states that the glory of the Lord shall endure forever, and that the Lord will rejoice in his works. The parallel being that “glory” and “rejoice” are used together to make emphasis that the Lord...
Book Burro
An excellent tool that was introduced to me lately is a firefox extention called Book Burro.
When Book Burro senses you are viewing a book on the web, it will open a small panel in your firefox browser. If you click on it, it will open a larger (but still small) window with choices in which to buy the book. It lists the online store name with the lowest price available. You can customize it to...
Whitman: I Sit and Look Out
As requested I will start posting a poem or two by my favorite poets. Perhaps Jess will do the same. Comments are always welcomed.
I Sit and Look Out by: Walt Whitman from: Leaves of Grass
I SIT and look out upon all the sorrows of the
world, and upon all oppression and shame; I hear
secret convulsive sobs from young men, at anguish
with themselves, remorseful after deeds done; I see,
in...
Just when you thought you knew your citruses...
A friend recently explained to me that in Mexico, lemons and limes are reversed from the way we know them…that is, lemons are the green ones and limes are the yellow ones. I don’t know about you, but this seems a little far-fetched to me. I have a hard time believing that we can’t all get on the same page about fruit. If this is true, shouldn’t it be well-documented in...
International Day Of Prayer For Persecuted Church...
This Sunday marks the date specified for prayer for the persecuted church. I believe it would be best to prepare our hearts for Sunday ahead of time by understanding what our brothers and sisters in Christ are going through in restricted nations. I would also like to take this opportunity to list a few countries that we care specifically for, and how you can specifically pray for them on Sunday....
a "wee little man"
Putting William down for nap today I sung through “Zacchaeus was a wee little man” multiple times. If you are not familiar with the lyrics, here they are (or at least the one I sung):
Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see.
And as the Savior passed him by, He looked up in the tree,
And he...
Hooray for Saturday!
What a great day we had today! We had a photo appointment for the little guy this morning, and despite some minor resistance from the subject, I think the results were smashing. It helps that he is cute, although it’s likely that I’m partial. Make that definite that I’m partial, but for the record, I have it on good authority from kindly strangers with no vested interest in my...
